Technology and Economy
The Technology and Economy section of the NSW Monitoring and Evaluation Programme focuses on improving the efficiency and reducing the cost of offshore wind energy. The objective is to provide insight into the various life phases (the design, construction and installation, operation and decommissioning) of offshore wind farms.
The NoordzeeWind monitoring programme in the OWEZ windfarm will collect data on the following elements:
- Maritime Climate; Adaptation of offshore wind turbines to maritime climates
- Turbine Loads; Impact of the combined load of wind and waves on offshore turbines
- Scour and erosion; Impact of turbine foundations on morphology
- Construction; Serial installation and operation of turbines at sea
- Operations; Reliability of larger wind turbines
- Maintenance; Requirements governing the maintenance strategy
- Power; Requirements governing the control strategy for integration into the electricity grid
- Energy; Predictability of energy output
- Standards; Requirements governing guidelines and calculation models for offshore wind farms
