Offshore Wind Energy
The Dutch government's goal is to have renewable energy meet at least 14% of the overall demand for energy in 2020. Wind energy is one of the most important options available. By 2020, the government expects offshore wind energy to provide a considerable share of the growth in renewable energy generation. The construction of the near shore wind farm demonstration project 'Offshore Windpark Egmond aan Zee' (OWEZ) in 2006 was the first step in the development of offshore wind energy in The Netherlands. The aim of this project is to gain the knowledge and experience necessary for the construction and exploitation of large wind farms at sea.
