Project activities

Inception phase:

An assessment of the amount of biowaste in Macedonia will be performed.

With the help of a local expert, an assessment on the amount of biowaste in Macedonia will be performed. The assessment will serve as input for the discussions during the workshops and for the preparation of the guidelines. Attention will be paid to:

  • different sectors of society such as households, restaurants, shops, agriculture, food industry (slaughterhouse, dairy, bakery et cetera);
  • type of waste (food waste, agricultural waste, animal waste, sludge, et cetera).

Workshop I: general aspects of biowaste management

Three Dutch experts will travel to Skopje and organise a two day workshop on biowaste management. All aspects of biowaste management will be covered. Examples from the Netherlands and other EU countries will be presented and the situation in Macedonia will be discussed.
Two more days will be spent on additional meetings. The implementing team will draft a first version of the handbook based on the findings during this mission.

Study tour to the Netherlands

The Macedonian participants will get a good insight in the possible ways of treatment and collection. The 7 participants will include Ministry staff as well as other stakeholders.
