Algemeen

Het effectief monitoren op mycotoxine en zware metalen is van belang voor Nederlandse bedrijven die actief zijn of willen worden op de Kroatische markt, gezien het belang van een level playing field voor lokale en buitenlandse bedrijven op dit terrein. Bij verschillende producten waarbij mycotoxins en zware metalen een belangrijke rol spelen (bijvoorbeeld aflatoxinen in noten), hebben Nederlandse bedrijven een belangrijke positie op de markt als importeur of handelaar. Het voorkomen van hiaten in het Europese systeem met betrekking tot import uit derde landen is voor deze bedrijven van cruciaal belang.

In het project zullen ook activiteiten worden georganiseerd om Nederlandse bedrijven waar mogelijk te betrekken en te informeren.

Project purpose

The project aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Croatian authorities to monitor the occurrence of toxic metals and mycotoxins in certain foodstuffs, in accordance with relevant EU regulations.

Project results

• Sanitary and veterinary inspectors are trained in their tasks of sampling, including methods of risk assessment;
• Assistance is given to prepare a multi-annual national control plan for monitoring of heavy metals and mycotoxins in certain foodstuffs, including a monitoring and recovery system;
• Recommendations are delivered for the introduction of risk assessment in sampling and monitoring of mycotoxins and heavy metals;
• Laboratory personnel is trained in the correct analysis of samples, inter-laboratory proficiency tests and good laboratory practice;
• Croatian producers and importers are made aware of the risks, requirements and procedures related to mycotoxins and heavy metals in foodstuffs;
• Dutch importers are informed about the increased and strengthened controls on contaminants in food originating from Croatia.
